We are saddened by the recent loss of our dear friend, artist, humanist and author, Frederick Franck. Dr. Franck died in June, 2006 and we are working on an online retrospective for him, which will include images from his recent exhibitions and ordering information for books and selected drawings and paintings. A memorial performance is in the planning stages and we will post that as plans firm up.
We have organized a 2007 traveling exhibit of Franck's work which was hosted initially by THE SPITZ Gallery in London and will open January 2008 at Galerie Amber in Leiden, Holland (additional venues TBA):

TWO LONGTIME POUGHKEEPSIE AREA ARTISTS IN DUO EXHIBITION
FEATURING NEW PAINTINGS AND Warhol-Era PHOTOGRAPHS FROM 1968
Margaret Crenson and Billy Name will open a duo exhibition of paintings and photographs at Albert Shahinian Fine Art's Poughkeepsie gallery on Saturday, November 17 - Meet-The-Artists Reception is from 5-8p.m. The exhibit will run through January 6, 2008. Name, who resides in (and hails from) Poughkeepsie, is an internationally known and collected artist whose 1960s photographs of the "scene" at Andy Warhol's Factory first established his credentials as an important chronicler of the times. Pleasant Valley resident Margaret Crenson is an immensely talented painter whose sometimes quirky and whimsical still lifes, cityscapes and genre paintings are well-known to gallery goers in the Hudson Valley region.

Margaret Crenson - City House, Husdon, NY, oil on canvas
Name and Crenson are long-time friends and collectors of each other's work. Both were active in the area's artistic past, especially noteworthy in the development and support of the former Mid-Hudson Arts and Science Center. The Center was a hotbed of visionary, cutting edge arts programming in downtown Poughkeepsie until it closed in 1990.

Margaret Crenson - Cornfield No. 19, oil on canvas
Since MASC, both artists have continued to support the maturing arts scene in - and beyond - the region. This exhibition is a tribute to their friendship and their continuing positive influence in the community. As significant is curator Shahinian's continuing interest in presenting artwork of the highest quality and historical relevance - especially by those living in the area.

Margaret Crenson - Yellow Field, oil on canvas
Crenson will show 25 new oils that run the gamut from highway scenes to abandoned houses to the odd architectural details which enrich the eyes when passing through old urban centers like Main Street, Poughkeepsie. Name will show prints from a series of color negatives from his 1968 Bano Series - in which he set up his camera in front of the bathroom in the Factory and took un-posed shots of guests leaving the bathroom. Additional prints include small groups and street shots around the Factory.

Margaret Crenson - Allied, oil on canvas
Additional biographical information on the artists will be posted soon. A closing reception is planned, date TBA.
We will continue to add material to exhibition narrative as needed. Please revisit us on line and in person. We look forward to seeing you at the galleries!
